A New Cock!

So Dale saw this huge rooster–he calls it his cock–and had to have it. Needless to say many inappropriate jokes have filled my day today!

It’s flippin’ huge and sort of hideous but he loved it so much he decided he couldn’t live without it. So now it sits proudly on top of the refrigerator! In fact, Dale went on and on about how he loves how “proud” it is! Hee!

New Curtains!

This has been our dining room window view since we moved into our apartment nearly three years ago! We’re happy we don’t look in on our neighbor’s dining room (though their place must feel like a cave).

So we picked up these sheer curtains at Target. Light still gets in but blight isn’t quite so visible!

I love it! Also? We got new placemats!

Here’s Dale, enjoying both the curtains and the mats! And some dinner and wine!

Lots of random updates to come because Dale’s brother (Hi, Wayne!!) demands updates!!

Shelf Life

I was wandering through a book store killing time a few weeks back and I came across a book I worked on at my last job sitting on the clearance shelf. On this one I edited the book and picked out many of the photos that appear in it. And I started to think that (1) I worked on a lot of stupid books and (2) now that I’m back in business magazine publishing I don’t get the kick of seeing the books I worked on in the bookstore as I kick around on the weekends.

So I started to wander through the store and look for books I’ve worked on. I proofread the book on the left and did both copyediting and proofreading on the book on the right.

I did a copyedit on the above. It was pretty cheesy but the first-time author was really nice. I think she’s already got a second book out.

Sexy coupons! Can you believe I once did most all of the work in organizing a meeting called “Coupon World Domination”? Yeah, me neither. So, I had a hand in working on many of those, Glow-in-the-Dark Sex Coupons is a personal favorite. That’s right; they really glow!

I worked on the reissues of all three of these. Had to work with the authors, the art directors and did some proofreading (varying levels) on each of these three. And the little coupons tucked in between, too.

And I worked with both of these authors–I think I did a read on the middle one but, honestly, I don’t entirely remember! Hee!

Anyway, I had a lot of fun working on these kinds (nonfiction and fiction romance) books.

A BRAND NEW(ISH) CAR!

So we needed a new car and we’ve been looking and test driving for a couple of weeks and we’d narrowed it down to a few options. We were thinking it would be hot to drive a diesel (tax credit for alternative fuel) and we thought we wanted to buy new (sales tax credit).

We went for a test drive in a 2009 Jetta Wagon and were a tad underwhelmed but it fit most of our utilitarian needs. The sales guy suggested we look at his barely used 2008 Jetta Passat Wagons–he had three, all loaded, at a price lower than the brand new Jetta Wagon–but with an even better warranty–the original 2008 warranty was still in effect and they tacked on the “certified” used warranty, too, to the car is under warranty until 2014. And then we test drove it and everything just seemed to fall into place…

Here is our new car in front of our boring old house! Hee! No, that’s a Frank Lloyd Wright house but we only live two blocks away from there and we wanted a nice backdrop for our pretty Betty to have her picture taken.

Anyway, we think she’s a real beauty (though we did argue about the color; Dale wanted green metallic). She serves all our needs: big enough for Dale to lug around all his photography gear, small enough for me to reach the pedals, clean, loaded with extras including biege leather, decent gas mileage for its size…we like!

Betty’s got a niiiice profile! She’s sporty but functional–like I aspire to be.

Vintage/Antique Jewelry Show

My friend Anne invited me to go to an antique clothing and jewelry show–I’ll post a pic of the insanely ridiculous purse I bought later–out in her suburb of Elgin. It was neat for me but poor Dale came along and discovered it was all girly things!
So he took a few photos to amuse himself and I figured we’d share since we’ve been so boring during this last couple of long and cold months.
Sassy mannequin selling her wares!
Lots of sassy clothes.
And accessories!
Vintage hat mannequins–love them!
Dale liked this one a lot.
And this dude is my favorite!

The purse I bought is a little red schoolhouse. Seriously, it’s ridiculous but I love it. I collected antique purses in high school and had a pretty sweet little collection and somehow I only have two left from back then and about four vintage purses total.
